I’ll admit first hand – that this is probably one of the weirdest engagement session I have ever done.
No, not because of location or anything else, but because Flora is a cousin of mine. In fact, she’s the youngest cousin. In my mind, she has always looked like this:
I think I took these myself when I was 13-14 years old and she was 7-8 maybe? I think I was using an old manual focus Canon FD1 with a 50mm 1.4 lens at the time and I think I told Flora ‘Hey, don’t smile on the next one’
(Either that, or she has just been teased by her brother Ted…)
The last time I met Flora was when she graduated from college and I have just gotten married. But for whatever reason, the images above is what I have always remembered Flora.
Flora and Scott met when Flora was working in Boston after graduating from MIT (a fun fact about Flora, I think she got 1600 on her SAT scores in high school… i.e. she didn’t miss a single question). Flora is now in Seattle working for a major software company and Scott is in Boston. They got engaged on a trip to Hawaii this year. Scott has a conference in San Antonio and Flora flew down there and then they drove up to Austin to visit with me and Hazel in Round Rock, and while Hazel was working, I took them down to Austin for their engagement session (and she has also ran a half marathon the weekend before too):
Yes, she’s all grown up but she still has the same eyes.
Afterwards we went to a bar and bought them a few drinks – it’s so weird to drink with your little cousin – as Flora told me, I was the first cousin that she has ever had a beer with. Another record gets broken, I suppose
Flora and Scott will get married next July in Seattle – looking forward to it!
