Published! in D Weddings Magazine (Dallas, TX)

We’re pleased to announce that one of our weddings from last year, as well as one of the sweetest couple we had the pleasure to work with, Monica and David, married on May 23rd of 2009, have been selected by D Weddings for a 2 page Real Weddings feature.  D Weddings is the premier Dallas bridal magazine, so it’s pretty neat to be selected for print publication.

It appeared in the Fall/Winter 2010 issue of D Weddings and I have finally gotten a copy in Dallas last week.

Their original wedding blog entry can be seen here:  Monica and David 2009 – Ku Photography LLC D Weddings also featured their wedding online at: Monica and David – D Weddings

Enusha and Wyatt’s Wedding Day, Sri Lankan Buddhist Ceremony, French Legation Museum, Austin, Texas

Date: June 26th, 2010

Ceremony and Reception:  French Legation Museum, Austin, Texas

Enusha and Wyatt met each other and work as research scientists at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  Enusha is from Sri Lanka, so it’s important to have a Buddhist Sri Lankan ceremony along with a Methodist ceremony as well.

From Enusha’s own words about how they have met and about what they do:

Wyatt was a graduate student in  cell & molecular biology, I was finishing up my PhD in microbiology and he actually asked me just after I defended my dissertation – it was great timing! HAH! … Right after I defended, our family planned to visit Sri Lanka for a month- it has been 5 years since our last visit, well we basically has 7 days of dating before I left. It was pretty wild b/c I knew before that my parents would want me to meet some Sri Lankan fellas as potential suitors. So while we were in Sri Lanka I was torn, after only 7-days with someone to base the rest of your life on, is pretty daunting- but I decided to stay with it, and felt like there was just something there I couldn’t walk away from. So when I came back to the U.S.- to my parents disappointment I didn’t choose a suitor, but in my heart I had…and five years later here we are!

Right now I am a research assistant professor and Wyatt is a post-doctoral fellow.  We do have a nice melding of cultures: my family are immigrants from Sri Lanka (and I am first generation American) and we are Buddhist, and I’ve grown up in Austin Texas. Wyatt comes from a traditional, conservative West Texas family with methodist upbringing. I like to call him the ‘Beav’ b/c his family is so happy and like the “leave it to Beaver” show…a blessing really!

The day started off with Wyatt getting a shave:

One of my favorite pic of the day, Enusha’s mom getting emotional as the veil is put on.  Enusha is wearing a white sari for the ceremony and will switch to a different color for the reception.

Yes!  The knot is tied, literally….

Dad is getting happier as the ceremony comes to an end…

Charlie’s Angels?

A fun first dance…

Love the cake!

The kids built them a two hearts with an arrow through them with the glowsticks:

They left on a carriage decorated with Indian garbs:

Wyatt said to me in an email:

I’ll add that I always feel like the luckiest man in the world – very few people find their REAL soul mate, and I’m positive I found mine.

Congratulations to Enusha and Wyatt!

Jenn + MIke’s Wedding Day, Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, TX

Date: June 21st, 2010

Ceremony and Reception:  Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, TX.

I went out to Bastrop State Park on a warm Monday afternoon to photograph Jenn and Mike’s wedding.    They met each other over a Shiner beer (and of course, served Shiner in the reception, my favorite beer :) ).  Both are avid rock climbers.    While the coverage only lasts for 4 hours, it was one of the most emotional weddings I have ever had the privilege to capture.

Liz Duren - These pictures are great. Her flowers were SO NEAT.
I loved how you used the light on her face during the ceremony to your advantage to make her shots so dramatic.

Monica and David’s Wedding Day, San Fernando Cathedral, San Antonio, Texas

Date: June 12th, 2010

Ceremony: San Fernando Cathedral, San Antonio, Texas

Reception: Private Estate, San Antonio, Texas

What a celebration!

Monica and David are law students in Florida, so it was difficult for her to plan her wedding in San Antonio.  We met with her mom, Carmen, on a rainy weekend just two months before the wedding.  She had planned to have the reception at her grandmothers’ estate in San Antonio, which has been converted to  hosts charity events, etc.

The Groves from Austin, TX was their their band – and you know the party will be great when there is a live band in the reception!

After looking back at the images again for the blog, I will say that this wedding is one of the best celebrations we have ever witnessed. It was truly loads of fun to photograph.

The day started in the Drury Hotel before moving over to the cathedral:

Love this image of Carmen having fun with friends and family

One in a million chance to get caught up on the disco ball…..

Congratulations to Monica and David!!
